RMS Lusitania, the world&#8217;s first superliner and Cunard Line&#8217;s ocean greyhound with her sister ship Mauretania, were two of the most famous passenger ships in the world and the toast of their Liverpool home-port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>So why was only Lusitania allowed to continue in civilian service between Liverpool and New York during the First World War when Germany had declared a war zone around the British Isles and Ireland?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting will be held on Sunday 21st January 2024 at the Olive Mount Community Centre, Edgewell Drive, L15 8GG Starting at 2pm, finishing at 4pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Refreshments provided, admission is free to all, but donations appreciated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Local journalist and historian, Peter Elson will bring us the true story of the sinking of this famous ship.
