"I lived in Wavertree since I was born in 1949 until 1963 when we moved to Halewood. My Father lived in Wavertree Gardens until he married my Mother. We all lived in Picton Road above Linton's dress shop. It was great living there in the 50's and 60's. I used to swap my singles at the second hand record shop along the road. My friend Doreen and I used to get ice cold milk from Lawler's dairy where there was a milk machine.

"My Grandfather died when I was three. My Dad used to take me to his mother's place in Wavertree Gardens every Sunday, she would make lovely rice pudding in her blacklead oven by the fire. she used to use snuff. I tried it and it always made me sneeze. She also used to buy kuwins, a sort of shellfish like cockles. She had a tin of buttons I always used to play with, pretending to be a sweetshop proprietor. There were some buttons that looked like Uncle Joe's mintballs.

"My Uncle Harry lived with his mother. He never married. He was a miner and died young aged 39 in 1965 he lived there alone for a couple of years after his mother died in 1962. He then moved to Knowsley House where he died."
