NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Sept. 2000)

RAGS, RICHES AND RELIGION
Wednesday 20th September, 7.30 pm at Wavertree Library
The city of Liverpool is blessed with the strongest, richest, oldest voluntary sector in Britain. There are very specific reasons why this is the case. Edward Murphy, OBE, Chief Executive of Liverpool Council of Social Services (Inc) will speak about the history of charitable effort in Liverpool and the role his organisation has played in promoting that effort for the last 90 years. A serious subject, but one which, we hear, Mr Murphy tackles in a witty and amusing way. Come along and see for yourself on 20th September at Wavertree Library, Picton Road, Liverpool 15, starting at 7.30 p.m. There is no charge for admission, and all are welcome to attend.

WHERE SHOULD WE MEET?
Several of our recent public meetings have been held at Wavertree Library. We do like to support our local library, which was only recently threatened with closure. However, we must warn members and visitors that toilet facilities are NOT available in the library. If any member knows of alternative venues which we might be able to use for future meetings, please phone Sheilagh Birch on 722 6265.
