PLANNING NEWS
There is no word, as yet, on when the Olive Mount redevelopment scheme will be discussed by the City Council's Planning Committee. Meanwhile the former School has been demolished, following completion of the single-siting building work in Queens Drive.
The owner of the new building at 10-14 High Street (see Newsletter 141) has appealed against the Council's refusal of planning permission to retain the UPVC windows already fitted. We have written to the Planning Inspectorate expressing the view that this particular style of window is inappropriate within the Conservation Area.
Planning permission has been refused for two 'infill' schemes: a proposed house in the side garden of 20 North Drive, and another at 35 Olive Lane.
A planning application has been submitted for the demolition of 55 Sandown Road (the old rectory) and its replacement by a block of 12 flats. This is not a listed building, and we understand that it may be structurally unsound. We are therefore content to leave the decision in the hands of the Council's planning officers.
