'BUILDINGS
AT RISK'
IN WAVERTREE
We were recently pleased to hear that the City Council's conservation officers - in conjunction with English Heritage - are paying special attention to the Wavertree Village Conservation Area. A researcher has visited the area and photographed some of the more neglected historic buildings, with a view to drawing up plans for their repair and refurbishment. We await the outcome with interest.

LOCAL HISTORY
AS ART
On Saturday 6th November Mike Chitty will be leading a walk across the old Wavertree Green - from the Monks Well to the Windmill site - as part of this year's Liverpool Biennial festival of contemporary art. The historical walk will follow a 40-minute talk by Mike Lane
(of the Kensington-based 'Whistleblower' organisation) which takes place at the Lock-up, Childwall Road/Mill Lane, at 2 p.m.

WAVERTREE
IN BLOOM?
The recent successes of both Woolton and Gateacre in the 'North West in Bloom' competition has given renewed encouragement to the other Liverpool villages (including Wavertree) which might decide to take part in future.
We are currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to help organise this - or simply to lend a few hours of their time assisting. We hope to discuss this further at the A.G.M. - and also with our local Councillors.
Please let any Committee member know if you are interested.

LESSONS FROM THE GARDEN SUBURB
We have been invited to participate in a Town & Country Planning Association research project entitled 'Garden City Communities and their Future'. Wavertree Garden Suburb has been selected as one of eight case studies, the others including Letchworth Garden City and Port Sunlight. The object is to see what elements of 'Garden City developments' (including garden suburbs) should be conserved - by whom, for whom and why - how successfully this has been done in the past, and what development pressures may need to be resisted in the future.
