More Forthcoming Events

Wednesday 26th May
150 YEARS OF
WAVERTREE CRICKET CLUB

A talk at the Cricket Clubroom, Long Lane,
starting at 7.30 pm

In 1854 the gentlemen of Wavertree decided to form a cricket club. With its ground on the corner of Sandown Lane and Long Lane, the club is one of the oldest of its type on Merseyside. On 26th May we shall be holding a special meeting on the first floor of the Wavertree Recreation Club's building in Long Lane, Liverpool L15. Members of the cricket club will be talking about its long and eventful history. Unfortunately there is no disabled access to the venue, but we thought it appropriate to hold this talk on the club's 'home ground'. The meeting will start at 7.30 pm, and all interested are welcome to attend.

Saturday 19th June: A COACH TRIP TO NOTTINGHAM

We have organised a day excursion to Nottingham on Saturday 19th June. Members of the Nottingham Civic Society will be taking us on a guided coach tour of their city, and telling us about its past history, recent developments and future plans. Nottingham has a wealth of attractions old and new, and we can look forward to a very interesting day. After lunch (arrangements optional) there will a choice of two guided walks around the city centre, again led by NCS members.
Tickets for this event will cost £10 per person. Departure time from Wavertree (Lake Road, near the Picton Clock) will be 9.15 am and we expect to be back by 8 pm. The trip is being organised jointly with the Gateacre Society so there will be an additional pick-up point at Gateacre Brow (Black Bull) at 9.30 am.
We expect demand for places to be high, and are restricting attendance to paid-up members of the Society. If you wish to come, contact our Committee member Robert Zatz - 65 Sandown Road, Wavertree, L15 4JA - as soon as possible. Please note that payment of the full cost in advance is necessary to secure your place, and cheques should be made payable to 'The Wavertree Society'. When booking, please indicate which pick-up point you will be using.

Wavertree Cricket Club and Nottingham Civic Society both have websites giving information about their own activities
