PHONE MAST LATEST
In our last Newsletter we reported the controversy surrounding the telecommunications mast on the corner of Lance Lane and Childwall Road. Now, to make things worse, a planning application has been submitted to make it even bigger. The reference number is 05PT/0487 and the proposal is for a 15 metre high mast (compared to the present 12.5 metres) with a diameter of 324mm at the bottom and 460mm at the top.
The applicants give the reason for the mast as being: "To provide 3G Coverage to the area, as Liverpool has been chosen as one of the 5 pilot areas for the latest digital technology, which will enable customers internet access along with the ability to send and receive photos".

CRICKET CLUB MEMORIES
Wavertree Cricket Club celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2004, and embarked on a major project to record its history for the benefit of future generations. They plan to publish a book in 2006 and meanwhile, with the help of a grant from the National Lottery, they are creating a website, a photographic archive and an audio-visual library of interviews with past and present club members. They are particularly looking for people with memories of the club and the ground - on the corner of Long Lane and Sandown Lane - before, during and after the Second World War.
If you are able to help, or know of anyone else who can, please let us know and we will put you in touch with the Project Co-ordinator, David Goodall.

Our coach trip for 2005:
WE'RE OFF
TO LEEDS
on Saturday
21st May
Following our very successful outing to Nottingham last summer, we have organised another day excursion, this time to Leeds where we shall be the guests of the Leeds Civic Trust. Our hosts will be taking us on a coach tour of their city and telling us about its past history, recent developments and future plans. There will also be guided walks - and plenty of free time for shopping! Tickets for this trip will cost £10 per person.
Departure time from Wavertree (Lake Road, near the Picton Clock) will be about 8.45/9 a.m. and we expect to be back by about 7 p.m. The trip is once again being arranged jointly with the Gateacre Society so there will be an additional pick-up point at Gateacre Brow (Black Bull). If you wish to come, please contact us as soon as possible. Please note that participation is limited to paid-up members of the Society - and payment of the full ticket cost is necessary to secure your place.
