A Street Audit for Wavertree?

English Heritage has launched a campaign called 'Save Our Streets' with the aim of removing redundant street furniture and clutter from Conservation Areas and other historic locations.

At the same time, the charity Living Streets is encouraging groups like ours to carry out an 'audit' of their local area, and to draw up an action plan to improve the pedestrian environment - which should also benefit local businesses.

We hope to make a start on this - concentrating on the High Street and part of Picton Road - in the spring. If you would like to help, please

RECORDING THE CALDERSTONES

We have been approached by an archaeologist who is planning to research the history and significance of the Calderstones, and to make a detailed record what he regards as one of the finest examples of 'rock art' to be seen anywhere in the country.

The Calderstones at one time marked the boundary between the townships of Wavertree, Allerton and Little Woolton, so it was felt appropriate that the Wavertree Society should be involved in the project.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact us
for further details.

A LOCAL HISTORY EXHIBITION
The Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust will once again be holding a local history fair at St George's Hall, Liverpool, on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th February 2005. We have not yet decided whether to participate - but if you would be willing to help man our stall for a couple of hours on either day, please let us know as soon as possible.
