NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Sept.2006):

RECENT PLANNING DECISIONS

Planning permission has been GRANTED
for all three of the proposals mentioned in Newsletter 159
: the Dingwall Autos site (101-107 High Street) on 22nd June, the Coffee House forecourt (Church Road North) on 6th July, and Bethel Chapel (Heathfield Road) on 22nd August.

But planning permission has been REFUSED
for the extension and conversion to a dwelling of the former Boxing Club building in Wesley Place (a proposal which had given rise to a great deal of local opposition) and for the retention of newly-installed UPVC windows and doors at 179 Thingwall Road (a sign that the City Council is at long last getting 'tough' on people who go ahead with alterations without first applying for the necessary consents).

CURRENT PLANNING APPLICATIONS

The City Council is inviting comments
on two proposals
within the Wavertree Village Conservation Area:

Ref. 06H/2338 & 06L/2339
- to carry out alterations including the installation of a UPVC door at 24 Orford Street (listed building).

Ref. 06F/2243
- to erect a Tesco Express convenience store on the corner of Prince Alfred Road and High Street, Wavertree.

The Tesco application is an amended version of the firm's previous proposal, which was withdrawn earlier in the year (see Newsletter 158
). We have not yet had a chance to examine the plans, but will do so before our next Committee meeting. The drawings are available for viewing on the ground floor of Millennium House, Victoria Street, Liverpool L1 6JF - or phone the Case Officer, Mrs S Scott, on 0151 233 3021 for further information. The deadline for any objections is 19th September 2006.
