NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Apr.2006):

It was five years ago that Claire Moorhead, who is Treasurer of the Friends of Williamson's Tunnels, came to give us a talk about the fascinating labyrinth of tunnels beneath Edge Hill. Now she returns to tell us more about the Friends, the tunnels, and what has happened over the intervening period, and what they hope will happen next.

Archaeology, conservation, preservation, exploration and politics have all played their part, as well as painstaking historical research and a determination to survive as a company. The Friends would like to thank the Wavertree Society and its members for the support they have given over the years.

Following the success of our March meeting, we shall once again be using the new OLIVE MOUNT COMMUNITY CENTRE which is situated within the Cosmopolitan Housing Association development just off Childwall Road.

Our next meeting:
JOSEPH WILLIAMSON AND HIS TUNNELS - REVISITED
A talk by Claire Moorhead
on Wednesday 3rd May,
7.30 pm at the
Olive Mount Community Centre, Liverpool L15

The directions to the venue are as follows:

From Childwall Road (pedestrians only) - walk down the path a few yards and the community centre is in the big building on the left almost in front of you. The entrance is on the side of the building closest to Childwall Road, just inside the gate by the palm trees.

From the roundabout on Thingwall Road - turn into Edgewell Drive, take the first left and the building ('Monkswell Place') is a few yards on your right. Go past the front of the building, turn right just past the parking spaces for the disabled, then walk through the gate ahead. (There is plenty of undesignated parking space available on the continuation of Edgewell Drive).
