NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Sep.2008):

THE PUBLIC SCULPTURE
OF LIVERPOOL'S
CULTURAL QUARTER

An illustrated talk by Robin Riley
on Wednesday 24th September
at 7.30 pm in the
Olive Mount Community Centre

Robin Riley is a sculptor who is also, currently, Vice-Chairman of the Merseyside Civic Society and Chairman of the Friends of Liverpool Monuments. He was responsible for the recently-published full colour leaflet which illustrates and describes no fewer than 37 items of interest in the William Brown Street/Lime Street area. This area forms part of the Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City World Heritage Site, and Robin's talk will aim to demonstrate that Liverpool's public sculpture occupies a key place in European art history.

OUR ANNUAL
GENERAL MEETING

Sunday 5th October, 2 pm
in the Olive Mount Community Centre

This year our A.G.M., in addition to the usual annual reports and the election of a new Committee, will include an illustrated talk by Mike Chitty on the theme of VANISHED WAVERTREE. Mike will talk specifically about the 13 photographs which are featured in our newly-published Calendar
. If you fancy helping with the running of the Society, taking part in our discussions, or assisting us in some other way, please don't be shy - we always welcome new faces on the Committee, and will be inviting nominations at the meeting.

DIRECTIONS TO THE MEETING VENUE:

The Olive Mount Community Centre is situated on the ground floor of Monkswell Place, Edgewell Drive, Liverpool L15 8GG. Car access is from Thingwall Road via the mini-roundabout; and there is direct pedestrian access from Childwall Road. (Enter the building through the wooden gate by the palm tree!)

Edgewell Drive is now shown on  Multimap. (The red circle marks the exact location of the Olive Mount Community Centre). Or see our own 'Where we Meet' page.
