NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Nov.2008):

'Planning News' from our Newsletter 171

A planning application - ref.08F/2550 - has been submitted to build a three-storey, 19-bedroom block of student flats on the former builder's yard/Atkinson's dairy site adjacent to 31 Coventry Road (to the rear of 31-33 Heathfield Road). We have expressed concern about the height of the proposed new building - which we feel is likely to overshadow the nearby houses in Newcastle Road - and the lack of adequate car parking provision.

The planning application to build a block of retirement flats on the site of the Churchill Conservative Club, in Church Road (ref.08F/1731, see last Newsletter), was WITHDRAWN by the applicant on 6th October. We understand that planning permission was about to be refused; and we presume that the application will be resubmitted with modifications in due course. We did not object to the principle of redevelopment, but we did object to the demolition of the Edwardian house ('San Remo', later 'Waverton') which we felt could be incorporated within the sheltered housing scheme.
