Exactly one hundred years ago, plans were afoot to create a new 'community in a garden' in Liverpool. A company called Liverpool Garden Suburb Tenants Ltd had been formed, and a site had been obtained on the edge of the city, at Wavertree Nook, to lay out the new housing estate and its associated recreational facilities.
How had these plans come about? Who was behind them? What happened, over the next few months and years, as the new community took shape?
With the help of contemporary photographs, press cuttings and other documents, our Local History Secretary Mike Chitty will be telling the story of the creation and development of what became known as Wavertree Garden Suburb.
