WAVERTREE VILLAGE CONSERVATION AREA
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Committee members of the Wavertree Society did their best to deliver about 1,000 copies of the City Council's Advisory Leaflet (see Newsletter 175) to every house, flat and business address within the boundaries of the Wavertree Village Conservation Area. We hope that, if you live in the area, you will have received one.

Inevitably, we did have problems getting access to some properties, such as 'gated' blocks of flats, so please let us know if you or your neighbours still need a copy. Let us know, also, if you are aware of any 'absentee landlords', property management companies, etc., who we may need to contact separately to ensure that they know about the Conservation Area regulations.

WELLINGTON/RATHBONE ROAD JUNCTION
We have become increasingly concerned, in recent months, about the danger and inconvenience suffered by pedestrians needing to cross the road at the Picton/Wellington Road traffic lights.
This was one of many problem areas highlighted in the City Council-commissioned (but never implemented) 'Living Streets' report in 2006. We are currently drawing up proposals for improving this situation, and we hope the Council will give it some urgent attention.

WAVERTREE 'LIT UP' FOR CHRISTMAS
Your Newsletter Editor spent Christmas in New York, and found time to visit the sailing ship 'Wavertree' - decorated for the festive season - at the South Street Seaport Museum. The 'Wavertree' (1885) was given its name by the original owners, R.W.Leyland & Co. of Liverpool.
