An illustrated talk on
Wednesday 23rd November, 7.30 p.m.
at the Olive Mount Community Centre,
Edgewell Drive, Liverpool L15 8GG
Tom Murphy is one of Liverpool's best-known and most prolific creators of public sculpture. Over 30 examples of his work can be seen in and around the city, most of them created within the past 20 years.
Tom will talk about Liverpool's long tradition of statues and architectural sculpture, highlighting the differences between eras but also the similarities, such as the city's 'need to remember' which has been the motivation for several of his recent works. Tom will explain how Liverpool's public sculpture has reflected the changing fortunes of the city - merchants and ministers having been superseded by singers and sportsmen in recent years.
