Our summer coach outing:
HOLYWELL AND COLWYN BAY on Saturday 22nd July
This day trip begins with a visit to one of the 'Seven Wonders of Wales', St Winefride's Well, which has been a place of public pilgrimage for over thirteen centuries. Alongside the 16th century shrine building is an interpretative exhibition, including a collection of wooden crutches discarded by the cured in former times.
We shall then travel on to the Victorian seaside town of Colwyn Bay, which after a long period of decline is now undergoing a series of regeneration initiatives. Our hosts the Colwyn Bay Heritage Group will take us on two short guided walks, highlighting the hidden role of the town during WW2 (it was the home of the Ministry of Food) and looking at a selection of recently-restored buildings. We shall finish with a visit to Rhos-on-Sea, and another well: St Trillo's, which features the smallest place of worship in regular use in the U.K.
The coach departs from Wavertree (Lake Road) at 9 a.m. and Gateacre (Black Bull) at 9.15 a.m. The cost is £15 per head - payable at time of booking. Tickets will be on sale at our talk on 31st May, or (Wavertree Society members) please refer to your Newsletter for details of how to secure your place on the trip.
