NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (May 2018):

Our summer coach trip:
SATURDAY 28th JULY to the
Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Wakefield

This year we have an outing with a difference. Our coach will take us to Wakefield in Yorkshire. The former Bretton Hall estate, 7 miles south of the city, has been transformed into the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Around 80 artworks are on display in an open-air setting, and there are three indoor exhibition spaces including the innovative Underground Gallery. The Park has its own restaurant and gift shop, and a visit can occupy several hours (though a lot of walking is involved to appreciate
all of the attractions).

For the less mobile/less energetic, we are offering an alternative: a visit to the city of Wakefield itself. Committee members of the Wakefield Civic Society will either show us round on foot, or advise us about places of interest which we can visit independently. These include the cathedral and the Hepworth Gallery. (Barbara Hepworth was born in Wakefield, and Henry Moore nearby in Castleford). There will also, of course, be plenty of opportunities to eat, drink and shop.

Tickets will be on sale at our meetings on 23rd May and (subject to availability) 22nd July. Wavertree Society members wishing to come should follow the instructions given in their copy of the Newsletter.
