FIELDWAY GREEN SAVED
As a direct result of the article in our last Newsletter, Fieldway Green (pictured right as it was in 1913) has been purchased by Mr Geoff Cowen, whose family had a long association with Wavertree Garden Suburb and whose father Alan was responsible for most of the pantomimes and variety shows at the Institute between 1933 and 1971. Although he now lives in Berkshire, Geoff is a member of the Wavertree Society and contributed several of the items that were on display at our Memorabilia Afternoon last January.
The intention is that ownership of the Green will, in due course, be transferred to a charitable trust. Meanwhile the Fieldway Residents Association has applied to register the land as a Village Green, to further guarantee its preservation as a local amenity.
