Following the granting of planning permission, the preparation of the former Olive Mount Secondary School site for housebuilding has now begun. Wimpeys'  signboards advertise their forthcoming 'Canterbury Chase' development. The trees designated for removal - mainly poplars along the Mill Lane boundary - have been felled. We were pleased to hear that these are to be replaced, in due course, and a further 100 new trees planted; but we are concerned at the current lack of physical protection for the other mature trees on the site. The Society has also been invited to assist with the design of the proposed 'linear park' connecting Thingwall Road with the village green.
