NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Oct.2004):

SANDOWN HALL LATEST

The Public Inquiry into the proposed rebuilding of Sandown Hall within the North Cheshire Green Belt (see Newsletter 150) takes place on 26th October at Macclesfield Town Hall.

Mike Chitty will be representing the Wavertree Society, explaining why we would like to see the building rise again even 40 miles away from its original Olive Lane site. He will also be handing to the Planning Inspector copies of the letters which individual members of the Society have kindly written, setting down their memories of the building in its Crawfords days.

Meanwhile we have put the entire Design Statement - describing and illustrating what is proposed - on our special Sandown Hall
website.

BLUE COAT SCHOOL NEWS

On 20th October the Earl of Derby visits Wavertree to declare the Blue Coat School extension officially open. Now that the controversial new building (see our special Blue Coat School website) has been completed and occupied, attention is being turned to the existing Edwardian buildings which are Grade II* listed and in need of repair.

The South Wing and part of the West Wing (overlooking the Mystery) have been sold to Miller Homes for conversion to private apartments, and as part of this scheme the former school laundry building has recently been demolished to make way for a new block.

The trustees of the Liverpool Blue Coat School Foundation will be spending a large part of the £2.2 million proceeds on refurbishing the Church Road frontage, including the Clock Tower, the Board Room and the Chapel - which will be available for hiring out for weddings and other functions.
