George Nash is the archaeologist referred to in our last Newsletter, in connection with the proposed Calderstones project. He works in Chester, lectures at the University of Bristol, and has been carrying out research on the fascinating subject of Rock Art since 1991. Up until recently only a handful of British sites, mainly caves, were known to have evidence of early prehistoric art - and this was 'portable' art. However, within the last few years Rock Art has been found, and research by George Nash has revealed that there are over 65 assemblages in England and Wales with art and adornment. This lecture will look at recent developments within this important field.

After the main part of the talk, Mr Nash will refer to our own Calderstones and explain why he believes they are so important - and in need of detailed investigation and recording.
