As well as being a jewel in Liverpool's architectural crown, The Sailors' Home in Canning Place, just off Paradise Street, played an important part in the development of Liverpool as a leading merchant port. For nearly 120 years (1850-1969) the building witnessed the port's changing fortunes and some remarkable events. Stephen McKay will talk to us about the building's conception, construction and destruction.
