NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Jan.2010):

PLANNING NEWS

Of the planning applications mentioned in the last Newsletter, one - for student accommodation at 31-33 Heathfield Road - has been REFUSED by the City Council, and one - for a Tesco Express retail store at Prince Alfred Road/High Street - has been GRANTED. No decision has yet been reached on the Planning Appeal relating to 34 High Street.

A retrospective planning application to retain 11 UPVC replacement windows at 12 Heywood Road (ref.09H/1982) has been REFUSED by the City Council on the grounds that the materials and design are unacceptable within the Wavertree Garden Suburb Conservation Area and the granting of planning permission would set an undesirable precedent.

Two newly-submitted applications within the Wavertree Society's area - not yet discussed by our Committee - are as follows:

Ref.09F/2842:
to erect 3 two-storey residential units (including accommodation in roof space) to provide 24 student bedrooms, on the site of former garages off Mendip Road, L15.

Ref.09F/2883:
to convert former industrial premises at 4-7 Back Sandown Lane (to the rear of Sandown Terrace) into 2 dwellings and carry out alterations including raising ridge height of roof and installing new windows/rooflights.
