NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Mar.2015):

GREEN SPACE REVIEW
Our thanks go to all who took part in the City Council's 'Local Plan Post-Consultation Survey' (see last Newsletter) and sent us copies of their responses. The Council has now set up a Strategic Green & Open Spaces Review Board - chaired by Simon O'Brien - which will report back to the Mayor of Liverpool by the end of 2015. A series of public meetings has been organised, and the Board say that they want people to come forward with "creative ideas" that will help to enhance Liverpool's green and open spaces. The invitation states: "Whatever the space, be it wasteland or walled garden, let us know what it means to you and how you'd like to see it develop". At each event there will be a short presentation, followed by a question and answer session.

The meeting for Wavertree, Picton and Princes Park wards takes place on Saturday 14th March at the Wavertree Athletics Centre (Indoor Track), Wellington Road L15 4LE, 10.30am-12 noon, but the Board has said that residents are free to attend and participate in any of the meetings, irrespective of venue. You can find a full list - together with further information about the Board's terms of reference, etc. - at

Later venues include the Merseyside Police Support & Social Association, Riversdale Road L19 3QN (nominally for Church, Greenbank and Mossley Hill wards) on Friday 20th March, 6.30-8pm, and St James Church Hall, Church Road South L25 7RJ (nominally for Childwall, Belle Vale and Woolton wards) on Saturday 28th March, 10.30am-12 noon.

We hope that as many people as possible will take this opportunity to emphasise the importance and value of all our local open spaces, including both the Olive Mount (Manweb) and Sandown Park playing fields.

Following the ward visits, the Board will hold three themed workshops - on Accessibility, Finance and Stewardship - in April and May 2015. These workshops will be for invited groups and individuals. To register an interest in one of the workshops, please contact the Board via the City Council's website as above
