MORE GREEN SPACES DISAPPEARING?

We have recently lodged objections to two local planning applications:

1. Land opposite 120 Wellington Road
(ref. 15F/1249), where 26 dwellings are proposed on former railway land adjacent to Wavertree Playground. This triangle of scrubland has, as far as we know, never had buildings on it, and it has become a haven for wildlife. It is classified as Green Space in the UDP (Unitary Development Plan) but the owners are planning to remove the embanked material and lay out a housing estate alongside Wellington Road.

2. Land at 14 Old Mill Lane
(ref. 15F/1580), where 5 houses are proposed within the back garden area of the listed building formerly known as Newstead. When planning permission was granted last year (14F/1334) to convert the old house into flats, the applicant stated that "The rear is a private amenity space for all the future residents and will remain as such". Now, the intention appears to be to sell off the majority of the garden area, which the current applicant describes as "an area of run down land".

You can find details of the above planning applications at
bit.ly/LCC15F1249
and bit.ly/LCC15F1580 respectively.
The closing dates for comments are 23rd July and 6th August.

Meanwhile, sadly, the former Liverpool Bowling Club green in Church Road - mentioned in our March 2014
Newsletter 198 - is now a building site. Despite objections from ourselves and local residents, planning permission was granted (14F/0030) for a 74-bed care home.
