Peter Elson says that he has spent his entire life "scribbling away", starting with school magazines. After writing for the Newcastle University newspaper while an undergraduate on Tyneside, he walked a mile downhill to join the Newcastle Evening Chronicle. Since then, "it's not quite been downhill all the way", with great times working for the Daily and Sunday Telegraphs, The Times, Daily Mail and The Observer. Returning to his Merseyside homeland, he spent 17 years "at the screenface, mining the English language" for the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo until three years ago. Now he has what he describes as "an apparently sensible job" as Liverpool Blue Coat School's Development Officer, mainly raising funds to restore its mighty Father Willis pipe organ. To relax he appears on BBC Radio Merseyside's Roger Phillips Phone-in Show as its maritime expert.
