WAVERTREE HIGH STREET:
A 'COMMUNITY CONVERSATION' ON 29th JULY
Over 300 people have so far responded to the 'Love Wavertree' online survey regarding the future of Wavertree High Street. It isn't too late to take part. If you haven't done so already, and if you live near, work near, travel through, or visit the High Street for any other reason, you can find the details elsewhere on our website - or go direct to the SurveyMonkey questionnaire.
The online survey was prompted by the announcement of a new government grants scheme, administered by Historic England, which will make £44 million available towards the revitalisation of High Streets that are also Conservation Areas. Wavertree High Street (and part of Picton Road) is situated within the Wavertree Village Conservation Area, and Liverpool City Council - with input and support from ourselves - has submitted a bid for it to be designated as a Heritage Action Zone. If this bid - entitled 'From Wavertree to the World' - is successful, then it will qualify for a share of the new funding.
We want to give everyone a chance to say what their priorities are, and to put forward positive ideas for the regeneration of our High Street. There are several other possible sources of funds, so even if the current HAZ bid is unsuccessful these efforts will not be wasted. A public meeting - billed as a 'Community Conversation' - has been organised, and this will be held on MONDAY 29th JULY 2019, starting at 6 p.m., at 'The Cricketers' - Wavertree Cricket Club's social centre - in Long Lane L15 (near the junction with Sandown Lane).
The Community Conversation will be chaired by Ian Harvey, Executive Director of Civic Voice, who lives locally. Members of the City Council will be in attendance, to put forward their own views and to listen to what is being said, but this is a strictly non-party-political event.
If you wish to attend, please register at EventBrite - or send an email to lovewavertree@gmail.com
There is no admission fee. Pre-registration is not essential, but it will give the organisers an idea of numbers and will also ensure that you are kept informed of future meetings and other developments.
