DJK HOUSE UPDATE
On 30th June, the City Council's Planning Committee granted planning permission to Vitality Homes for the continued (and permanent) use of 63-69 High Street as "supported accommodation for persons who have completed or are attending a drug recovery programme". Statements of support were submitted by several local residents. Damien John Kelly House (as the premises are now officially known) has, contrary to initial fears, established itself as a valuable part of the local community. Its residents have been active participants in 'Love Wavertree' events such as litter-picking and personal fitness programmes, and in the maintenance of the Rose Garden.

ARE YOU A FACEBOOK USER?
We were recently sent an old Quiz Sheet, which had been given out at the Wavertree Wakes Fayre in 1993. The 12 questions have been posted on our Facebook site. It's not too late to enter (the deadline is the end of July) so, if you are interested, visit facebook.com/wavsoc for the details.

AN ART GALLERY
FOR THE HIGH STREET?
A planning application (ref.20F/14556) has been submitted to convert 55-61 High Street - the former Chillies building - into a private art gallery (to be named, we understand, the Adelia Gallery). The ground floor of 55 High Street - a former fish & chip shop - is to be used as a cafe. The owner of the building, Mr Amir Soleymani, previously applied (ref.20F/0223) to alter the facade of the building, proposing to rename it 'Liverpool Hall' and run it as a multi-purpose events complex. Both of his planning applications are currently awaiting a decision by the City Council.
