What you
need to
know

WITHIN THE WAVERTREE GARDEN
SUBURB CONSERVATION AREA
you need planning permission to:

  • Alter the windows or doors

  • Repair or renew the roof

  • Take down a chimney

  • Build a porch or extension

  • Put up a wall, fence or gate

  • Re-point any brickwork

  • Renew any pebbledashing

  • Paint or re-paint the outside of your house

  • Make a hard-standing for a car

  • Build a garage or car-port

  • Put up a garden shed or greenhouse, or

  • Cut down or prune a tree

BEFORE YOU
START WORK
you should:

  1. TELL your neighbour what you plan to do. You may need their approval.

  2. ASK the Council's Planning Office for details of their requirements, including the documents which they will need.

  3. TRY to use a professional to draw up your initial plans. Make sure they appreciate the special character of the Garden Suburb.

  4. CHOOSE a first-class contractor, preferably one who has previously worked in the Garden Suburb.

Most of us have chosen to live in the Garden Suburb
because we appreciate its uniquely green and pleasant character. Over the years, many of us have seen how even small changes to individual properties can damage the 'look and feel' of the area as a whole. But we have also seen how people's homes can be repaired, modernised and extended without spoiling their appearance.
By following the Conservation Area guidelines, we can all help protect our environment  -  and our investment.

DON'T FORGET:
Planning permission will only be refused in cases where the character of the building or the area would be harmed. Some minor proposals may not need planning permission at all. BUT DOING WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION MAY MEAN HAVING TO DO IT AGAIN.

The only way to be sure is to contact the City Council's planning office: phone 0151 233 3021, or write to the Planning Service, Liverpool City Council, Municipal Buildings, Dale Street, Liverpool L2 2DH.
