NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Jan.2005):

Mini Quiz ANSWER
In the last Newsletter we asked: 'Where in Wavertree was HENSHAW'S ENTRY?'.

The answer is:
Off Waterloo Street, running behind Nos.98-102 High Street.

The private passageway - which still exists - is named Henshaw's Entry on Sadler's 'Plan of the Village of Wavertree from Actual Survey' (1854) - an extract from which is reproduced here.

ANOTHER Mini Quiz

This is a test of how closely you have studied the pictures and captions in the book 'Wavertree - Images of England
'!

On what pages can you see:
(1) a DOG?  (2) a CAT?  (3) a misspelt SAINT's name?

The closing date is Sunday 13th February,
and there are three ways of entering the competition:

(a) visit our special web page
and follow the
on-screen instructions,

(b) send your entry by post to our Local History Secretary
(16 Chartmount Way, Liverpool L25 5LB), or

(c) come along to our social afternoon
at the Garden Suburb Institute, and hand in your answers personally.

A signed copy of our other book, Discovering Historic Wavertree
, will be awarded to the first correct - or 'most correct' - entry drawn out of the hat at the Institute on 13th February.
