Holy Trinity CENTENARY
1911 saw the completion of major alterations to the parish church of Holy Trinity Wavertree, notably an extension at the east end designed by Prof. Charles Reilly. The story is told in a fascinating new booklet - Transformation  - which is available at the Church (£5) or from the author, Nick Beattie, 22 Glenmore Avenue, Liverpool L18 4QE (£6 inc. P&P; cheques payable to Holy Trinity Church PCC).

The centenary is being celebrated in a number of ways, including a concert by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir in the church at 7.30pm on 12th November. (Tickets £10, phone 0151 280 7657 for details).

Our 2012 CALENDAR
One of the most successful Heritage open Days for many years saw the launch of our new Bygone Businesses of Wavertree calendar, which features a selection of photographs and advertisements from 100 years ago.

Copies are available at our meetings, price £2.50, or direct from our Sales Officer,
Sheilagh Birch.

Canal Trip APOLOGY
Owing to a long delay in the delivery of the boat, our proposed trip on the new Pier Head canal link has been postponed until Spring 2012.

A second DROWNING?
Our thanks go to all those readers who responded to the appeal for information in the last Newsletter. It was 9-year-old Leslie Newett, of Wavertree Gardens, who sadly drowned in Harper's Pond in 1937. Thanks to members of his family who still live in the area we now have a copy of the Liverpool Echo's report of the inquest. But the original enquirer, who says that he remembers a drowning incident while at school, was only 2 years old at that time. Could there have been another tragedy, he wonders - possibly involving a boy from Orford Street - about 10 years later?
