THE OLD
POLICE STATION:
AMENDED PLANS

The plans for 63-69 High Street (see our last
Newsletter) have now been modified. Instead of the ground floor being retained as a restaurant, the proposal is now to convert the whole building into a house in multiple occupation, described in the new application - reference 18F/2605 - as "supported accommodation (17 bedrooms) with meeting room and office". The 'Proposed Street Elevation' drawing that has been submitted indicates windows identical to those that previously existed. We have asked for clarification of this, and for confirmation that the recently-installed UPVC windows on the ground floor will be removed.

WHERE'S THE
SIGN GONE?

In our March
2017 Newsletter we mentioned our plan to refurbish some of Wavertree's surviving cast-iron street nameplates.  On our website - and in an article in the L15 Wavertree Times magazine - we included a photograph of the 'Wrights Terrace' sign off Waterloo Street.  Disappointingly this has now been removed during the course of house renovation works. We are still hoping to find out what has happened to it, and whether it can be reinstalled.

HIGH STREET SHOPFRONTS:
AN UPDATE

We still don't have any volunteers for our proposed 'feature shutters' pilot project (see Newsletters 218 and 220). However, we have noticed that quite a few of the High Street/Picton Road business owners - including some new arrivals - have recently repainted their shopfronts. We are planning another leaflet drop to thank those concerned for making the effort to brighten up the area.

OUR A.G.M.
Unfortunately we did not have a quorum (i.e. 20 members present) at our Annual General Meeting on 21st October. We went ahead with the quiz and the refreshments, but were unable to discuss the Accounts or to appoint a new Committee. We intend to re-convene the A.G.M. some time in the New Year, probably combining it with one of our public talks. Meanwhile the existing officers and Committee members will remain in post.
