What is known about Woodcroft Park?
1. According to the Liverpool Mercury (28 Sep 1891): "The Woodcroft Park ground is easy of access, being only one minute's walk from Wavertree Station". Two days earlier, the same paper had described it as "the new ground off Wavertree-road known as Woodcroft Park".
2. On 12 Dec 1891 the Wrexham Advertiser reported the previous Saturday's match against Wrexham: "The special train was not very largely patronised. The Caledonian Club has got a capital ground at Woodcroft Park, but the attendance of spectators was not so large as expected. The game was a very good one ...".
3. According to the Liverpool Mercury (10 Jun 1892) "The grounds ... while suitable for football and cricket, the fast cinder track of a quarter of a mile fits them for cycling and athletic purposes. The covered grand stand holds 1,000 persons, and the uncovered grand stand 2,000, while altogether 30,000 spectators can be accommodated."
4. On 7 Jan 1893 the Liverpool Mercury reported: "Liverpool Old Boys have acquired the ground known as Woodcroft Park, Wavertree, lately occupied by Caledonians F.C., and their home matches will be played on it in future. The accommodation for spectators is excellent, there being two stands (one covered), about 40 yards long each, with ample press conveniences. There is also a good racing track, and the ground is very suitable for race meetings. ... The turf is perfectly level and well drained."
