NEWS FROM THE WAVERTREE SOCIETY (Jan.2020):

TOWN HALL NEWS
One of the success stories of the 'Love Wavertree' campaign has been the revival of interest in the future of the former Wavertree Town Hall - which is still, architecturally speaking, one of the focal points of the area. The main frontage building on the High Street has been vacant for most of the past twelve years, though the former ballroom and stables at the back were converted to flats some time ago. Now, at last, a new lessee has come forward with ambitious plans to create a high-class restaurant and cocktail bar on the ground floor, with a meeting/functions room above.

The external appearance of the Listed Building will remain unchanged (though the frontage will be repainted and refurbished) while inside the intention is to install appropriate 'period' fireplaces and light fittings. The business partners behind the scheme - Natalie Doughty and Lisa Dixon - have considerable experience of managing restaurants elsewhere in the city, while project manager Mark Doughty is confident that the work will be completed in time for a May 2020 opening.
